Overview 

This Specialist level course provides a thorough exposure to SAN Copy and MirrorView on the CLARiiON CX4 series platform with FLARE Release 28.5 and Navisphere Version 6.28. Focus areas include the use of remote replicas in business environments, basic MirrorView and SAN Copy operating principles, and the differences between MirrorView/S and MirrorView/A, as well as between SAN Copy in Full Copy mode and Incremental mode. Other topics include MirrorView and SAN Copy operation, the Write Intent Logs, the Reserved LUN Pool, and Consistency Groups. The course is comprised of in-depth discussions and extensive hands on lab exercises


Pre-Requisites

Courses:

  • SnapView Configuration & Management (MR-1CP-SNPVSP)
    • Mirrorview & SAN Copy Foundations – Self Study (MR-5WP-MVSCFD)

      Knowledge/Skills:

      To understand the content and successfully complete this course, a student should have knowledge and skills associated with the following:

      • CLARiiON models, components, management options and features
      • Data integrity and availability features found in a CLARiiON storage platform
      • CLARiiON performance, storage configuration and provisioning concepts
      • PowerPath performance, transparent recovery and availability features in an open systems host environment
      • SAN terminology, features, architecture, theory of operations, and management including Fibre Channel and IP Storage networks concepts and EMC Connectrix switches
      • SnapView operation, terminology and performance
      • Basic MirrorView and SAN Copy operation

      Labs:

      Labs re-enforce the information you have been taught. The labs for this course include:

      • Create and test a local SAN Copy session
      • Create and test a remote SAN Copy session
      • Create and test an Incremental SAN Copy session
      • Create a synchronous remote mirror
      • Promote and test a secondary mirror image
      • Create and test an asynchronous mirror
      • Create and test a MirrorView/A Consistency Group
      • Create a MirrorView/A mirror with the Navisphere Taskbar MirrorView Wizard

    Upon successful completion of this course, participants should be able to:

    • Describe the MirrorView connectivity options
      • Explain the operation of the Fracture Log
        • Explain the operation of the Write Intent Log
          • Explain how MirrorView makes remote copies of LUNs
            • List the required steps in MirrorView administration
              • Describe how MirrorView and SnapView can be used together
                • Identify the features and functions of EMC SAN Copy.
                  • Install EMC SAN Copy on a supported CLARiiON array.
                    • Identify the operation of EMC SAN Copy in various environments.
                      • Manage and monitor an EMC SAN Copy session.
                        • Identify the steps required to troubleshoot and correct sample problems associated with EMC SAN Copy sessions.

    Assessment validate that you have learned the knowledge or skills presented during a learning experience. This course does not include assessments. Successful completion of hands on lab exercises confirms you have acquired the knowledge or skills presented in the class.
