Overview 

This course leads the student through a hands-on exercise in the configuration, implementation, and execution of Network Data Management Protocol (NDMP) backup and restore of EMC NAS systems, using EMC NetWorker and an EMC Disk Library (EDL). It also introduces the Celerra Virtual Tape Library (VTL) feature. This course currently supports DART 5.6.

NAS Operations and Management with Celerra

Knowledge/Skills:

To understand the content and successfully complete this course, a student must have a suitable knowledgebase/skill set, including an understanding of:

• EMC NetWorker administration and functionality

• In-depth administration knowledge of MS Windows and Linux

• DNS implementation

• Joining servers to Microsoft domains

• User authentication in both Linux and MS Windows environments

• Basic understanding of virtual tape libraries and backup to disk concepts

• Advanced Celerra administration skills

    More Information

    This course is intended for anyone that works with the design and/or implementation of EMC NetWorker NDMP solutions with EMC NAS systems.

    Upon successful completion of this course, participants should be able to:

    Configure EMC NAS systems for NDMP backup participation using both a local and a three-way

    implementation

    Configure an EMC Disk Library (EDL) to be the target for an EMC NAS system backup

    Configure and use the Celerra Virtual Tape Library (VTL) feature for EMC NAS system backup

    Backup and restore file systems and individual files on an EMC NAS system using EMC NetWorker

    These modules are designed to support the course objectives. The following modules are included in this course:

    • Backup Solutions

    • NDMP Theory of Operation

    • Celerra with EMC Backup Environment

    • Tape Unit Configuration Labs:

    Labs:

    Labs reinforce the information you have been taught. The labs for this course include:

    • Configure Data Movers to participate in a NDMP backup environment

    • Configure EMC Disk Library for Celerra backup

    • Install and Configure EMC NetWorker server for NDMP backup/restore operations using an EMC DL Tape

    Library

    • Perform NDMP Backup/Restore of Celerra File Systems using EMC NetWorker and EMC DL Tape Library

    • Configure Celerra VTLU (Virtual Tape Library Unit) for NDMP backups to disk

    • Configure EMC NetWorker server for NDMP backup/restore operations using a Celerra VTLU

    • Perform NDMP Backup/Restore of Celerra File Systems using EMC NetWorker and Celerra VTLU

    • Configure EMC Networker Server for VTLU Volumes/Saveset cloning to EMC DL

    • Perform Cloning/Restore of Celerra VTLU Backups using EMC NetWorker and EMC Disk Library
