Following the publication of the ITIL 2011 guidance in July 2011,
transitional examinations (Foundation and Intermediate) have been
sat by candidates since 08 August 2011. The transitional
examinations have been designed to accommodate candidates who have
taken either a 2007 or 2011 based course and were planned to run
until 31 December 2011.
This transition period was introduced to allow training
organizations to transition to the new courses at any time during
the second half of 2011. This process has started at Global
Knowledge with a number already switched. We are switching
those remaining over during November and December.
Inevitably, some candidates who were taught using the 2007 material
will have to re-sit examinations. The ITIL
Qualifications Board have considered the issue of re-sits for
candidates who have been unsuccessful in their examination attempt
using 2007 syllabus during or prior to December 2011, and have
agreed that candidates who have failed an examination can re-sit
their 2007 syllabus examination until 31 January 2012.
Based on percentage of syllabus change between
the 2007 and 2011 material we are issuing the following
guidelines:
Foundation:
New aspects could amount to a proportion of
the exam significant enough to affect a borderline score. A
changes summary is available on our webinar recording
http://www.globalknowledge.co.uk/knowledge%20centre/global%20knowledge%20webinars/previous%20webinars.aspx.
Contact Global Knowledge for advice.
Lifecycle courses:
Service Strategy has undergone substantial
change and we would strongly advise those who sat a 2007 course and
need to re-sit to do so before 31/1/2012.
Service Design has one added process (Design
Co-ordination). We believe pre-reading on this topic plus
your original 2007 syllabus notes would allow you to take the 2011
exam.
Service Transition, Service Operation and
Continual Service Improvement re-sits can sit the 2011 exams and
notice little difference.
Capability courses:
Release, Control and Validation (RCV),
Operational Support and Analysis (OSA) and Planning, Protection and
Optimization (PPO) are likely to be able to sit a 2011 paper and
notice little difference. Service Offerings and Agreement
(SOA) will contain the new business relationship management
process. Pre-reading around this topic should allow an ITIL
2011 exam to be taken.
Managing Across the
Lifecycle:
The exam and syllabus are undergoing
significant re-structuring. We are awaiting official details
to be released. Until then it’s business as usual.
Global Knowledge are happy to make sample 2011
syllabus questions based on new material available to students to
evaluate. If in doubt please contact Caroline or Rae
who will be happy to advise you.
