The Cisco Network Programmability Engineer Specialist is for engineers who deploy network applications into a programmable environment and make them operational. Key skills covered with this certification include implementing and troubleshooting an open network infrastructure designed by the network designers and architects. Unlike other SDN training, candidates who successfully complete this certification will understand a practice deploying, installing, and troubleshooting network infrastructures and applications.
This Specialisation will be retired on 20th January 2017. The last date to take the old exams is 20th January 2017. It is recommended that candidates migrate to the new Cisco Network Programmability Design and Implementation Certification. Full details of the migration options can be found here.

Cisco Specialist certifications are valid for two years. To recertify, pass ONE of the following before the certification expiration date:
- Pass the current required exam(s), or
- Pass a current CCIE written exam, or
- Pass the current CCDE written exam, or current CCDE Practical Exam
